Project detail
A visually rich website that balances aesthetic design with accessibility, creating an engaging and intuitive user experience across all devices.
About the Project
A mobile marketplace app designed to help local artisans showcase and sell handmade products. The platform focuses on easy discovery, creator profiles, and visually rich product listings, making it simple for users to explore, follow artisans, and shop with confidence.
Problem Statement
Local craftsmen struggle with limited visibility in the modern market, leading to a decline in traditional art forms and restricted growth opportunities.
Buyers face challenges in discovering and engaging with local artisans, often resorting to time-consuming searches across multiple platforms. This disconnect impedes the revival of dying art forms and limits market demand.
Designers lack easy access to skilled artisans for collaborative projects, hindering the creation of innovative, upscaled products that cater to current market trends.
Solution
1. Integrated Marketplace: Create a unified platform where users can browse, discover, and purchase handmade products directly from local craftsmen. This eliminates the need for users to visit multiple platforms, providing a one-stop solution for their handmade product needs.
2.Artisan Discovery and Engagement: Implement features that allow users to easily discover and engage with local artisans. This could include profiles highlighting the artisans' work, stories, and workshops, fostering a connection between users and craftsmen.
3.Collaborative Opportunities: Enable designers and artisans to collaborate on innovative projects through the app. This feature would facilitate the creation of unique, upscaled products that cater to market trends, benefiting both designers and artisans.
Design Process
1. Problem Understanding
Many local artisans struggle with visibility and lack platforms that truly highlight their work. Existing marketplaces often feel cluttered and product-heavy, leaving creators undervalued.
2. Research & Insights
Research focused on:
How users discover handmade products
What builds trust in creator-led marketplaces
How artisans want to present their work
3. Information Architecture
The app structure was designed around key sections:
Home for trending artisans and products
Category for exploration by craft type
Discover for visual product feeds
4. Wireframing
Low-fidelity wireframes were created to define layouts for:
Product cards
Creator profiles
Discovery feeds
5. Visual Design
A vibrant yet clean visual style was applied to celebrate handmade products. The design uses:
Strong imagery
Soft backgrounds for focus
Clear typography
Consistent icons and spacing
6. Interaction & Prototyping
High-fidelity prototypes were built to simulate browsing, following creators, saving products, and navigating profiles.
7. Refinement
The final stage involved refining spacing, contrast, and consistency across screens to ensure a polished and accessible experience for both users and artisans.
Design Strategy
Business Intent:
Our goal is to establish an ecosystem through Handmade Hive that increases demand for authentic handmade and handcrafted products. We seek to connect artisans directly with buyers, eliminating the need for middlemen or agencies. We aim to enhance the value proposition of handmade, indigenous craft products by showcasing them through world-class exhibits, clear communication, and a contemporary brand image. We aim to portray craftsmen and artisans as 'Makers,' highlighting their skill and craftsmanship.
1. Our app aims to create a vibrant marketplace that facilitates direct connections between local craftsmen and buyers. By fostering collaboration and facilitating transactions, we aim to revitalize traditional art forms and provide artisans with a platform to showcase their work.
2. Through the app, we aim to offer users access to unique artisanal products, workshops, and collaboration opportunities. This not only promotes cultural preservation but also helps artisans gain visibility and recognition in the market, fostering a sense of community and support among craftsmen.
